Abstract
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are mesenchymal tumors that occur primarily in the gastrointestinal tract and peritoneum and the use of Imatinib confers significant survival benefit in GISTs. Hodgkin``s lymphoma arises from germinal center B lymphocyte and is characterized by the appearance of Reed- Sternberg cells. GISTs and Hodgkin``s lymphoma are rare in Korea and the coexistence of each disease hasn``t been previously reported. During Imatinib treatment for metastatic duodenal GIST, an abrupt onset of mediastinal mass occurred in a 31-year-old male patient. Despite of dramatic response to Imatinib which rendered partial remission of nearly cystic degeneration of metastatic GIST, a 7 cm sized tumor was newly detected in the anterior mediastinum. Given the rarity of mediastinal metastasis of GIST, a mediastinoscopic lymph node biopsy was perfomed and the final pathologic diagnosis was Hodgkin``s lymphoma. Here in we report the first case of concurrent Hodgkin``s lymphoma with Imatinibcontrolled metastatic GIST which suggests that any suspicious mass especially in a rare site should be biopsied for confirmatory diagnosis.
